Request for Help for Local Scout Family

Posted on Jul 13 2014 - 2:24pm

Hello everyone,

I am writing to everyone to let you know of an opportunity to show our children how important and rewarding it is to help others in need. Empathy is one of the qualities that leads us to be great citizens. This is, after all, one of the main principles that the boy scout organization tries to teach our children.  Our children will ultimately learn this from watching our actions.

Welding Merit Badge Offered

Posted on Jul 13 2014 - 2:23pm

The Tech Shop in Bakery Square is offering a great opportunity for scouts in the area to earn the Welding Merit Badge - a newer badge just released in 2012 - and to learn more about the possibilities in industry associated with welding. The staff at the Tech Shop provide instruction once each month at their facility in East Liberty on the second Sunday for three hours in the afternoon (either 12-3 or 3-6) for $25 per scout. Future sessions will be held on August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 14. For more information and to register, visit http://lhc-bsa.org/welding - dates, permission slips, and more details are available at that site.

Note to Scouts from the Advancement Chair

Posted on Jul 13 2014 - 2:22pm

Hi Scouts -

I just spent a good deal of time entering blue card information into my records, and it looks like Troop 143 had another fun and successful summer camp.  That also means, it is probably time to look at your individual goals in scouting.  Are you seeking out leaders to get those skill advancements signed off?  When was the last time you had your advancements recorded by Mrs. B?  If you think you are ready to advance, have you contacted Mr. English (remember you need to talk to him for a Scout Master conference before you ask for a board of review date).  If you have met with Mr. English, Yes, you need to ask Mrs. B. to schedule a board of review, this is not Mr. English's responsibility.
