Congratulations to Scouts on First Term Honor Roll

Posted on Nov 21 2014 - 3:50pm

The first nine weeks Honor Roll has been announced for Moss Side Middle School, Gateway Middle School, and Gateway High School, and as usual, almost all Troop 143 Scouts made the list. In addition to their academic exploits, we had Scouts involved in many other extracurricular activities this fall - football, swimming, soccer, marching band, concert band, orchestra, cross country, fall baseball, etc., which makes their accomplishments all the more impressive.

Time to Re-Register/Troop Dues to be Paid by November 25

Posted on Nov 21 2014 - 11:02am

It's time for our annual rechartering process, and in preparation for the new charter, Troop dues are to be paid by November 25 to the Troop Finance Committee/Treasurer. The Troop Committee has held the line on these fees, so dues are again $80 per scout and $70 for a second scout from the same family. Dues cover the cost of registration ($24)  and insurance ($2.50), as well as portions of advancement, communication, and supplies for the year. Our rechartering must be completed before December 1 including both paperwork and payment of registration and insurance fees to BSA, so please pay scout dues no later than the end of November. Registered adults pay for their registration cost of $24 at the same time as well.

Leaf Raking Help at Guardian Storage Requested for November 30

Posted on Nov 21 2014 - 11:02am

Help is requested for Sunday, November 30 at Guardian Storage, 350 Old Haymaker Road in Monroeville (north on Route 48 just beyond Gateway Middle School) for leaf raking. Our district has a storage unit for Scouting at the facility; we are not charged for the unit, instead we conduct service projects there each year - leaf raking in fall, a cleaning in spring. The service project will begin at 2:00 PM and should be completed by 4:00 PM. Please dress for the weather, bring leaf blowing and raking tools and gloves. There will be refreshments for all who serve!

Popcorn Payment

Posted on Nov 21 2014 - 11:02am

We have now sorted all our popcorn orders, and Scouts should have delivered their customers' products. We have paid our share of the sale to Laurel Highlands Council. Payment for the popcorn was due to the Troop Treasurer on November 18 during our Court of Honor. If you have not yet made arrangements to pay, please see the Troop Treasurer as soon as possible.

Second Trip to Salvation Army on December 9

Posted on Nov 21 2014 - 11:02am

We will be returning to the Salvation Army for service with the Treasures for Children project on Tuesday, December 9. As before, scouts and leaders should wear uniform shirt (neckerchief is not necessary.) We need to be at the warehouse as close to 6:00 PM as possible, so those needing rides will meet at the fire station parking lot by 5:20 planning to leave by 5:30. It is not too late to join us if you haven't signed up already; please let us know if you are participating by December 2. We will be shopping for boys and girls and bagging the gifts to go to the distribution centers the following week.

Timberline Trip Preparations

Posted on Nov 21 2014 - 10:37am

We're getting closer to the winter sports weekend trip to Timberline Four Seasons Resort, and things are shaping up down there. The mountain cam shows them making snow, and it looks like there will be quite a base by the time the Troop arrives, http://timberlineresort.com/snowcam.php. Several items must be completed before leaving: if you haven't paid the fee of $109 per person, see the Troop Treasurer right away. If you have not yet turned in your equipment rental form, please return it as soon as possible. A few adults and one scout must turn in updated health forms. And finally, if you haven't indicated a need for a hlemet rental or interest in a beginner ski lesson, please do so immediately.
