Popcorn Sale - Only a Few Weeks Left

Posted on Oct 4 2015 - 11:13am

It's Popcorn time! This year, Pecatonica River Popcorn will again be the featured product. We will have options for Show & Deliver, Take Order, and online sales (via www.prpopcornstore.com). With Show & Deliver, you can order product in advance and have it with you when you go door to door. Take Order is the traditional sale where an order is placed and delivered in November. And online selling allows your out of town friends and family to support Scouting!  Each Scout is expected to sell at least $125 worth of product, but it's easy to sell even more!  As a unit we sold $6,370 last year, and our 2015 goal is $7500.00. Take order sales forms or totals are due on October 20. Please contact Mr. Ward with any questions that you have or to set up an online selling account.

Big Scouting Events Announced

Posted on Oct 4 2015 - 11:13am

The dates for the next big national and worldwide Scouting events have been announced. The 18th National Jamboree will be held July 19-28, 2017 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, and the 24th World Jamboree will be held July 22 - August 2, 2019 at the Summit, cohosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico (this will be only the second time the World Jamboree will be held in the USA; the previous one was in 1967.) Scouts and adults participate in these events as part of Council or National-based Troops made up of scouts from many different units. Scouts must be at least First Class rank and 12 years old by the first day of the event to participate in the National Jamboree. These events are incredible opportunities to participate in almost everything Scouting offers with others from around the nation or the world. Troop 143 has sent at least 1 Scout to every National Jamboree held since the Troop's founding, and adults from the Troop have served on Jamboree staff in a variety of positions. Troop 143's founding Scoutmaster attended the 14th World Jamboree in Norway as a Scout, and several other adult leaders from the Troop attended National Jamborees as Scouts in the 1970s and '80s.
