Timberline Trip Payment

Posted on Oct 23 2014 - 9:32am

We reached the deadline to reserve our space for the trip to Timberline Four Seasons Resort in Davis, WV, and payment was due to the Troop Treasurer on October 21. If you did not yet pay, please make arrangements to do so as soon as possible. The trip is planned for December 19-21, and the fee is $109, which includes 2 day ski lift ticket, rental of ski equipment (boots, skis, and poles), 5 meals, 2 nights lodging, and a beginner ski lesson. Helmets are mandatory (required by BSA) and cost $10 for a weekend rental (if a Scout has his own helmet, it must be checked by the Scoutmaster in advance.)

Popcorn Orders Sumitted - Sorting and Pick Up November 8

Posted on Oct 23 2014 - 9:30am

The annual popcorn sale fundraiser orders have been submitted, and we are now getting ready for the next phase - sorting and pick up.

We will sort and pick up popcorn on Saturday, November 8 in the fire station bays. If you are available to help sort, we will begin as close to 9:00 AM as possible and you can take your order with you when we are finished. For those not able to help sort, pick up will be between 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon. If that time frame does not work, please let the Scoutmaster know so we can make other arrangements.

Sign Up for Treasures for Children Service

Posted on Oct 22 2014 - 8:37am

As we have done for many years, Troop 143 will conduct service through the Salvation Army's annual Treasures for Children program. We will begin by setting up the Toy Shop for them at their Greentree/Carnegie warehouse on November 4, and we will follow up by helping to shop, bag, and prepare for distribution on December 9. In both cases, these are regular meeting nights, so in lieu of meeting we will go to the warehouse to serve. We need to be there both nights as close to 6:00 PM as possible, and we should leave before 9:00 each evening. All family members are welcome to participate in this wonderful service project. Scouts should wear uniform shirts to this activity (neckerchiefs are not required.)

Time to Re-Register/Troop Dues to be Paid by November 25

Posted on Oct 22 2014 - 8:37am

It's time for our annual rechartering process, and in preparation for the new charter, Troop dues are to be paid by November 25 to the Troop Finance Committee/Treasurer. The Troop Committee has held the line on these fees, so dues are again $80 per scout and $70 for a second scout from the same family. Dues cover the cost of registration ($24)  and insurance ($2.50), as well as portions of advancement, communication, and supplies for the year. Our rechartering must be completed before December 1 including both paperwork and payment of registration and insurance fees to BSA, so please pay scout dues no later than the end of November. Registered adults pay for their registration cost of $24 at the same time as well.

Thanks for Haunted Guyasuta Service

Posted on Oct 22 2014 - 8:36am

On Saturday, October 18, Scouts from Troop 143 provided service at the annual Haunted Guyasuta program held at camp. Scouts helped with guiding along the trail among other duties. For a picture, see Photo Albums. According to Mrs. Brundrett, the scouts were the only Boy Scouts who stayed to help with the entire event - both non-scare and scare, and the event leaders were very pleased and asked that we pass along their kudos.
