Independence Day Parade Saturday, July 4

Posted on Jul 3 2015 - 10:58am

Troop 143 and Pack 143 will march in the Monroeville Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4.Those helping with set up of our display in the K-Mart parking lot should be there as close to 7:00 AM as possible. For those marching, we will meet behind the Taco Bell in Miracle Mile to line up at 8:00 AM that morning. All marching and helping should be in full Class A uniform. We will have a float set up on the Lawrence's truck to go along with the marchers, and Scouts will hand out Scouting flyers to prospects (5-10 year-old boys who may join as Cub Scouts.) At the tent display, Scouts and adults will greet parade goers and answer questions about Scouting. As always, the parade itself will start at Miracle Mile and go down Business Route 22 to Mall Boulevard, ending at the review stand near Macy's.

Summer Camp Activity/Advancement Choices Needed - Annual Health Forms Should be Completed

Posted on Jul 3 2015 - 10:58am

With Summer resident camp quickly approaching, Scouts should complete and return their activity/merit badge choices now to reserve their spaces. The choices will be entered on-line beginning on July 4; the sooner they are received and entered, the better your potential to obtain your top choices since time slots fill quickly. In addition, most Scouts must update their annual BSA health form with a physician's signature. These forms are needed before the Troop leaves for camp on July 19. Please complete and return these as soon as possible.

Congratulations to Scouts on Final Honor Roll

The final honor roll of 2014-15 has been announced by Gateway School District, and as always, most Scouts attending Gateway Schools are represented. In addition to their academic accomplishments, our Scouts participated in band, mock trial, junior classical league, ultimate, lacrosse, track and field, baseball, and many other extra-curricular activities this spring.

False Cape Trip Outstanding

Posted on Jun 24 2015 - 3:37pm

Troop 143's trip to False Cape State Park, Sandbridge Island, Virginia was outstanding. All the scouts and leaders did a tremendous job biking with weight, setting up camp, cooking and cleaning up after meals, and enjoying the pristine nature of the park. Two days of ocean time with tidal pool exploration, biking to the education center, biking back and forth for water to the visitor's center, enjoying the large tree in the group camping site, and many other activities made it a great event. The weather, while hot and humid, made the beach all the more fun for body surfing. See photo albums for shots of everyone having a blast.

Time to Update Annual Health Forms

Posted on Jun 24 2015 - 3:37pm

For most Scouts and adults in the Troop, it is time to update your annual health form for the BSA. This form, especially Part C, the physical, is only good for one year. Parts A and B can be completed by a parent; Part C must be signed by a physician after the physical examination. We must have current forms for all upcoming trips - the False Cape bicycling activity, Summer Camp at Blue Ridge, etc. - so now is the time to get the forms updated.
